Yes there were some "tips" that would help when taking any test. However, this did not really prepare me for the actual test of 50 questions to be answered in 12 minutes. Not sure if this is the typical test for Municipals and therefore this book did not help any more than the ones I got from the library. I was hoping for an extra "edge" with the purchase of this study book. I was prepared for a timed test with multiple choice answers. I did not get this type of test from the City. I had to write out most of my answers so there was no "guessing" by process of elimination. I'd recommend visiting your local library first.
I returned this item. I don't feel that it had any useful information for my civil service exam. I actually received a 75 on my exam after reading through this so no I would not recommend this book. It is misleading and does not help at all!
I think overall so far the book is helping me understand how I should prepare and how to take the civil service exam. It isn't the easiest test and there's almost no way to prepare for it, and this is the best way I see possible to raise your score and understand how to take the test in all. Money well spent and I'm confident next time around I'll get an extra 10 points from just reading this book.
Love this guide book! I cannot believe how much it has changed my way of attacking the Civil Service test! This has lessened my anxiety and I feel more confident in taking the tests. The best study sections for me was the Analogies and the Mathematics. What a great refresher and techniques!
This is a very useful and very informative guide. Very helpful tips I can't wait to take my civil service exam in a few weeks. I think this guide along with its tips has prepared me for the exam... this is an awesome book very well put together and full of useful tips. I highly recommend this if you are having trouble with passing the civil service exam. ....
The practice tests were very helpful. As I read through the material there were many things that I had forgotten like the difference between a synonym and an antonym. To have to ponder those kinds of things in the midst of testing can be time consuming; very helpful.
In all honesty, I thoroughly enjoyed this study guide. It was formatted in a manner that was very easy to use/follow along. I appreciated the actual practice tests because it gave me an idea of what to expect when I do in fact take the test. Also, I did like the fact that certain portions of the test gave an explanation as to why this answer is correct. With that being said, this was the first study material of any kind that I purchased in order to study for my test. So I did not have anything else to compare it to. It still was very helpful and it did meet my expectations.
