This book, really introduces you to mediumship quite well. Delivered in such a way, that goes through the history of Mediumship (and related phenomena), and exercises for developing your own Medium skills. Each chapter is delivered as a "Lesson", complete with questions at the end of each lesson to reinforce what you've learnt. Now I myself, am a occultist, and am well accustomed to high magick, but Mediumship was fairly new to me, or atleast in this mannerism. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in conversing with the deceased, crossed over loved ones, or spirits in general. However for those more adept, and already accustomed to Mediumship, this really isn't for you, but for beginners, it is an excellent source.

After much hassle trying to obtain this book, I finally got it and am very glad that I did.Not only is this book about different methods of spirit communication, it is also a very thorough look at the history of spirit communication and Spiritualism. There are also quizzes, exercises and journal space within the book to track your progress.I also recommend Christopher Penczak's "Spirit Allies" in conjunction with this book, as both have so much information to offer a reader who is interested in the topics herein.

Mediums are people who have always held a certain type of fascination for me, especially now. Just recently I went to the local pagan/metaphysical shop, and what do I happen to catch on the shelves but Raymond Buckland's Book of Spirit Communications (ala the Big Red Book). What a fascinating topic and book. I love Buckland's readability factor. He isn't even sounding "too Wiccan" for me here, but he IS very traditional. Look to the chapter study questions to further reap the rewards of your reading and (if you want to) stick the completed questions into you BOS or personal journal for later reference. This is a great way to actually learn the material. But this book is not about typical magickal practices. Buckland covers ghosts/spirits, automatic writing, Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVPs), automatic art, divination (including Ouija/spirit boards), spirit photography & mediumship, among other things. He discusses how one goes about tapping his or her psychic centers (chakras) and psychic abilities, such as tuning into a spirit for channeling, automatic writing and the like. This book has opened me up to the idea that (at least, according to Buckland) anyone can become a medium. Now, of course there is a marked difference between those who have the gift just naturally, where it comes to you without really any focus or major effort at all on your part---and then there are people like myself, who are by no means gifted with this ability up front and center, so to speak. Using this book I truly hope to unlock my latent, little-used-so-far psychic abilities. This book has given me hope in attempting to do this! A stellar work on the subject, I highly recommend this to anyone interested in spirit communication, the history of the Ouija Board, or magick in general.

I am not a big Buckland fan... but this one he got right and it looks like he also got a lotof good information from the National Spiritualist Association of churches www. nsac.org as well. this book I can recommend...

This is my first book review and also the first book of Raymond Buckland that I have read. I bought this book based on the reviews it received. This reads like a bible of spirit communication. It was very informative, interesting and easy to read. Every possible subject is explained in one book. He has included profiles on interesting mediums and psychics. I plan to read more of his books now that I know his style and in depth knowledge. Great work Mr. Buckland! Thanks.

This book contains valuable history about mediums of the past and ways that a person can make contact with the spirit world. I would encourage anyone interested in this subject to buy this book and try the various ways to communicate with the spirits. Patience and perseverance is the key.

This is different kind of book on occultism. I first want to say, Spirit Contact should not be taken lightly. its dangerous. But its as dangerous as letting an 8 year old play with a chain saw. But if we take the time to prepare ourselves, learn from others, and gradually rise to the challenge, we will mitigate the risks. This book approaches spirit communications in this way. Buckland leads you slowly along the path of Spirit Communications. He recommends reading this book in sections, and then doing the chapter quizzes. Yes, do the quizzes!!! The book itself will teach about the history, terminology and methods to be successful at Spirit Medium Ship. Like I say, don't buy this book and expect to make communication that night.

Such a fun and informative book!I love that they give you a little quiz to fill out after each chapter, and they also add a lot of personal stories from different individuals.I think this book is good for anymore, from beginners to experienced mediums. It gives a variety of meditation, communication, and ritual techniques that I have no come across before. It's also pretty easy to read, so you're able to read a lot all at once.
