Communication Between Cultures

This bestselling intercultural communication text gives readers an understanding and appreciation of different cultures and helps them develop practical skills for improving their communication with people from other cultures. COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CULTURES is renowned for being the only text on the market to consistently emphasize religion and history as key variables in intercultural communication. Packed with the latest research and filled with numerous compelling examples that force readers to examine their own assumptions and cultural biases, this book helps students understand the subtle and profound ways culture affects communication. The book is divided into four interrelated parts: Part I introduces the study of communication and culture; Part II focuses on the ability of culture to shape and modify our view of reality; Part III puts the theory of intercultural communication into practice; and Part IV converts knowledge into action.

Had to read this for a class. Felt bloated with trivial and uninspiring concepts that could be easily googled.I personally wanted more concrete examples as to how i would approach someone from a given country, and though it gave some, the dullness unmotivated me.

I don't usually like text books, but this one is an exception. I get addicted to reading the content because it is written in a language 'normal people talk'. It is not so advanced that you need to research each word and it flows very well. If I didn't rent this book, I'd want to keep it for my own library. It is truly informative in learning how to communicate with others from a different culture.

Rented this book in my college class. I decided to buy it after, because it was great in defining cultures, and there is no bias like other college course books. It is good to have on hand if you are wanting an overview of other culture's religions, history, motives, etc.

Though my college course only had went through 8 chapters of this, it was an interesting read. I did manage to read it even tho I had completed the course.College store wanted over 120$ for used.

Great overview of cultures and cultural communication. However, the chapters on religion are rife with errors. Just the Christianity section alone had some grave errors concerning Christian theology. Then I read the Judaism section and found out later that there was an error about the sacred texts. However, don't let that stop you from using this textbook. The other chapters are a wealth of quality information.

interesting reading, needed it for a cultural diversity class, I would recomend it - only problem I have with the book is the topics are scattered all over. This is not a book you can pinpoint a particular area for a certain topic. You have to actually read to get the information.

I had to rent this book twice. The first book never made it to my house. I was refunded and had to rent it again. The second time around, I recieved my book. The book itself is very informative and effective. I recieved an A in my course because of this book. I would recommend this book to those who are majoring in Communications. My only issue was the delivery.

It was very informative. I loved the chapter about the lady from Thailand and how different cultures view beauty differently.
