Pros: Cheaper than in school's bookstore. Has all the material needed. and it's super informative.Cons: I compared it to a classmate's who purchased it at school and this was black and white and his was in color. All my pictures and graphs are black and white. I personally don't care, but if you're a visual/aesthetic learner and color matters, don't buy this.
Really great textbook for my biological anthro class. It's really concise and the language isn't too cryptic. My only complaint was of how thin it was, but considering this didn't cost an arm and a leg like other textbooks do, I'm not upset.
For a student who just wants to get by in class without spending a fortune on a book. It's in black and white... Honestly doesn't matter to me as long as I can read the words in the book.. For 20 bucks it was a good deal for me when our school bookstore charges 91 just to RENT it...
The book's content is okay, but the eBook is terrible.1) Many of the Kindle features don't work (re-flow text and word runner, for example).2) The font is so small that I can't read it on my Android device, and there is no option to change the font size.3) The book can't be opened in the online Kindle reader, so I'm stuck squinting at my phone.4) The book is WAY OVERPRICED. All of this information is available free online. I wish teachers would stop promoting robbery and use open-source lecture material.5) The 3rd edition is nearly identical to the 2nd, but there are some new pictures and such so the page numbers differ. Scam crap to keep students buying the newest edition instead of getting used copies.6) I can't sell the eBook. If I had purchased the hard copy, I would get some of my money back at the end of the semester by reselling the book. With the eBook will not let me resell.
This is without a doubt the best textbook I have ever used (and there have been many). It has been the first textbook that I have ever been able to just sit down and read without getting bored immediately, and it doesn't even read like a textbook. Aside from the fact that it was incredibly informative, the layout was fantastic, making it super easy to take reading notes and break the chapters down when studying.
I utilized this text for my first upper division course in Biological Anthropology, and since it was a summer course (only four weeks) by necessity a lot of material was covered really fast. As a result of the fast pace this book was critical to my understanding of the subject material. It’s well written, well organized and relatively easy to understand even for those not majoring in Anthropology. I’d love to recommend this book as a resource for the foreseeable future however due to the changing nature of the field sadly most of the information will be out of date (some of it already is) in the next few years. For the time being however it is an excellent introduction for those interested in the field.
I really enjoyed using this book for my Biological Anthropology Undergrad course. It gives all the needed information, but in a way that is easy to understand and encourages deeper thought into the subject. Great textbook! I wish I had purchased it instead of just renting it.
The pages were weird, as if they had been photocopied and bound together. The info was accurate, but I wouldn't buy again.
