A pretty good book on a decent subject. I really enjoyed the fact that the author takes great strides to include information which relates to how the popular attitudes concerning tricky subjects such as religion, creationism, etc. can be solved by understanding physical anthropology.

One of the better textbooks I have had to use in a long time. The pages are set up beautifully, the information is relevant and the overall feel of the book is excellent. If only all textbooks were this good.....

I think this is shaping up to be a very interesting book indeed. I wanted an easy class while doing my student teaching to keep full time status, and a freshmen anthro seemed interesting, so here I am. The content is very entrancing.

The information is formatted in an unintimidatingly accessible introduction to the subject of anthropology. This book is amicable in a commitment to creating a knowledge basis on this subject, whether as an enrolled student, or as an autodidact (self-taught).

This book is great! It goes into great detail about the subject and explains it in ways that anyone can understand. I used this book for my Anthropology class and got an A! My professor taught a lot of stuff out of this book, and I learned a ton! It has wonderful illustrations, and the font size is not small and easy to ready! I loved this book, so much so that I am buying the rented copy!

My first choice is to buy my text books used. Who wants to pay full price for book that you used intensely for one semester (or quarter) and then put on a shelf to collect dust? I love to highlight, underline, and generally beat the crap out of my texts, so selling them back to a bookstore after the term is over isn't an option for me. Maybe one day I'll get a wild hair and go through my old texts for the fun of it--this will never happen, but I have used old texts a reference material for papers. The point is, If you have to buy new books, buy them cheap. This was a good deal.

Overall it's not bad, although it is sort of the picturebook version of physical anthropology. Lots of pages covering DNA replication, but nothing about species formation. Words like "speciation" don't even appear in the index. The book uses the words "gracile" and "robust" in the chapter on australopithecines, but does very little to explain the difference. The word "gracile" doesn't appear in the glossary or index. It's not unusable, but it's not great.

This book has been wonderful in teaching me about human evolution from the basic gene structure onward. It was required reading for a college course and I'm very happy to have made the purchase. I most likely will keep it on hand in case my children need it for reference in their schooling.
