Was on site for Western Civilizations: Volume 1 and noticed they had an eBook for rental. Rented it only to realize later that the eBook rental was for Volume 2. Once rented could not find link to cancel. Be very careful when looking at eBooksWestern Civilizations: Their History & Their Culture (Brief Fourth Edition) (Vol. 1)
Unfortunately this is a required textbook for an elective in my Humanities course. It's a shame because I read through all my books before classes and find this hardly illuminating. It's your basic HS history course but just slightly refined.Granted much of the information is either a) outdated b) severally biased with a very limited modernistic viewpoint applied to everything or c) hardly represents the Occident from an accurate perspective. Someone who doesn't do a little outside reading themself might take the info presented here as the end all be all of the development of Western civilizations. There's been so many interesting alternative viewpoints to history that are not fully expressed here and worth the effort in checking out.
Rented this textbook for my Ancient and Medieval World History class. To my surprise, it delivered brand new and still in plastic wrap. The paperback cover has a nice texture to it, but still not durable enough for any college textbook. I tried very hard not to abuse the cover or binding, but it's so easy to ruin the corners when sliding it into a book bag. The content in the book wasn't horribly written, but the chapters were a lot longer than necessary for my specific class. I tried keeping up with the assigned readings but the class was way too fast paced to read everything, (the tests were based on her notes anyway). If you love history I'm sure it will be easier for you to get through the chapters than me.
The book is perfect, however you should state how many chapters are in the first volume, because I assumed that it had all of the chapters for edition 18. Not just the book going up to chapter 16 and then stopping.
Even though this was the required textbook for my history class, I really enjoyed reading it. Also,the authors made sure to include the role of women through out the time periods discussed.
Product arrived even sooner than noted. In excellent condition. I enjoyed reading and learning about the progress and evolutions of civilization.
Used it for HIS101 course, great resource.
