This is an excellent alternative to the standard anthology of Romantic writings It includes more female authors of the era, such as Mary Robinson, an Asian "gallery", American authors such as Whitman, Melville, Dickinson and a generous sampling of continental authors.Romanticism is apprehended as a movement from the mid-1700s to late 1800s. I would have included more of Percy Shelley, Robert Browning and other "strong" poets as opposed to the ideological cast of the book. Still in all, a useful effort.
Heavy duty and very important. Guided sometimes more by politics and theory than aesthetics. If you know that, what's not to want?
