Wonderful book, in excellent condition (minus some underlining), awesome price. Arrived on time and is a wonderful addition to our home library. WIll have to look into getting Vol.1. Prime is terrific!!!!
Lots of good stuff in here. My only complaint is how tiny the print is. It's hard to read sometimes.
Has a lot of value per dollar and if you're into this sort of thing, it has a lot of fascinating reads from the time.Be warned that reading assignments are much more difficult than they seem. Forty pages of Walden at size 10 font is not something that you'll be able to (or at least, should be able to) finish one hour before class starts.
As far as the content goes, the articles vary from being historical documents to biographies to actual stories. Some of the better readings include Royall Tyler's "The Contrast" and Hannah Webster Foster's "The Coquette". The author of the anthology has provided background information on the authors of the works and historical context on them, which can be helpful for both the casual reader and students creating essays.As the anthology has only writings from the beginnings of America, there are large sections devoted to the Puritans' arrival and the literature they created. I would consider that a con.Quality-wise, it's a little difficult to take care of, if one does not respect books and property. It has "Bible-pages" which can be torn easily and the text is rather small (size ten).
The book is a great literature book, it just was not what I needed. Even thought it is the 7th edition of Norton's Anthology of American Literature, it does not contain all the writings of the volume I needed (which was 7th ed). This was disappointing and no fault of the seller or mine. The book I have now is over 2800 pages called 7th edition shorter version. It contains material for Am Lit 1 and 2. It has a picture of a mountain range on the front cover. I don't need the info for Am Lit 2, but at least it contain all the info for Am Lit 1. So ask for a description of the book from your instructor before buying. Hope this helps someone.
This is a pretty wonderful book! I love all the works that I've read in it so far. It also includes my new favorite poem of all time! And I don't know much more that can be said about an anthology, but I like this one.
This book was labeled very good - but it is in excellent condition! The book looked brand new off a Barnes and Nobles shelf!
This was a required text for class. It has a great deal of literature, some that I propably would never have read before if not for teh book. It is a great refernce for literature .
