If you like Dalí's work, this is fun way to look at it. Also there is quite a bit of history of the works and Dalí printed on the pages. Mechanically most of the popups are moderately complex dioramas, but there is one pull tab that flips 9 panels for a great effect.
i was expecting more detailed pop-ups than what is presented in the book. it seemed as there could be much more detail and many more pop-ups. that is just my opinion but i have other pop-up books by a different artist and they are much better.
Gave it as a gift to a collector of art and pop up books. The recipient was ecstatic.She especially applauded the excellent quality and selection of Dali's Art. She was also thrilled by the intricacies of the puzzle-like design to create the dimensional texture or the pieces. I highly recommend the book to Dali fans and lovers of clever art forms. Ama
Pop-ups were ok, not as amazing as I would have liked, but I am a tough critic when it comes to pop-ups. Lots of interesting information about the artist made it worth the cost.
Center pop -up does not open fully in my book so I peeked at the finer hard cover edition at Barnes and Noble, and that spread was in the same condition as mine. Pop-ups were scanty and not balanced. The pop up art was mediocre.
My five year old loves Salvador Dali. This book brings his paintings to life and also has some great descriptions and information about the artist and his paintings. I love looking at this book as much as my 5 year old. I do beleive that it is intended for adults, some of the content is not age appropriate for 5 year olds, however my son may be a little more mature than most kids his age when it comes to art and book and he really digs this.
I opened the book very carefully. I have many pop-up books and know enough not to force them, especially for the first time. On one page, the pop-up feature ripped, leaving me unable to fully display the page. I'm still contemplating wether to glue it (the tear won't show as much but the glue may not hold) or to tape it with mailing tape that will definitely show.
This is beautiful! And it is the perfect gift for the Dali-lover in my family's! The pages are made with quality materials and an attention to detail that is delightful! I can't wait until they open it on Christmas!
