Perhaps I was expecting too much, but this book truly lives up to its name. It is a crash course, something to read a week or two ahead of the test. Although it contains vital information, it does so in a watered-down version. I did have to look some things up on the Internet or the book provided to me from the teacher. Overall, however, this is a great buy, and it is probably the only book on the market that can provide this much useful information in so little pages. My advice would be to not rely on this solely, and do additional research (just to be sure).

I love this book so much, and I'm positive that if you get it, you will too. Here is a list of things I like about this book:1. Concise: At around 180 pages, this is the shortest review book for AP Gov out there. And if you're in a time crunch like I was and decide to start studying the night before the test, you'll have no problem breezing right through it.2. Organized: The whole book is organized in an easy-to-read bulleted format. Don't worry about trying to plough throw dense paragraphs of information like in the Princeton Review, because everything you need to know is contained in short sound bites.3. Test-oriented: Of all the review books, REA does the best job analyzing the College Board's course description and previous AP tests to identify topics and patterns that keep coming up. There are Test Tips all over the book that point out important distinctions and ideas that you'll need to know specifically for the test.4. Key Terms: There are also a few chapters devoted to key terms, topics, and court cases that you absolutely have to know. These are the topics that are the most frequently tested, and even if you only study these topics, you'll be on your way to at least earning a passing grade.Don't even bother with another review book. Everyone I know who has gone with the Crash Course has gotten a 5.

I self-studied for the AP US Gov exam using only this book and the McGraw Hill flashcards. This was a fantastically concise book. Everything about it was easy to digest and understand. When I got to the test, I had more knowledge than many of the kids who had taken the actual class. This is by far the best book for reviewing for the exam.

This is an excellent series, don't let the term "crash course" fool you. The book provided a well-researched outline with key concepts and terms. The analysis of topics covered on the previous year's AP test was helpful to prioritize study. Best of class!

Hey everyone, here's my review on the AP US Government and Politics Crash Course. Overall, the book is organized well and written clearly while getting through the essential points. Now let me explain my study habits prior to taking the actual AP Gov Exam. I hate to say it but I did not take any notes at all during classtime, I slept; I pretty much crammed the day before on each unit exam and quiz throughout the school curriculum. Doing this, I average around a B on my unit exams. FYI, our school used the Wilson and Dilulio 12th Edition Book. If you're wondering how I averaged a B on my unit tests, I crammed each day before using Course-Notes(I DID NOT USE THE CRASH COURSE BOOK BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE IT, I ONLY USE THIS BOOK FOR THE FINAL AND THE AP EXAM). The course-notes website offers outlines and study guides for the 11th edition of the book but I found it to be pretty much the same as the 12th and very useful for getting a thorough cram. The reason for not participating in the class was I just found the topic to be not necessarily boring, but the way this subject specifically is taught is very unengaging and quite boring to be honest.(Might just be because of my short attention span or my teacher because my AP Econ teacher was engaging and very exciting) Okay so you probably already saw the title saying that I got a 4 on the AP Gov exam and yes, it's true. The week before the AP exam, I took the final from my AP class and scored a 4(coincidence?). I crammed all of this book inside my lazy brain and was able to recall the hell out of it during the final. It came like butter. I also did this again a week later for the AP Exam and come July 4, 2013, I see 4 on my college website for AP Government and Politics, BAM. Now I don't want to get in trouble for discussing the AP exam, but I can confidently say that this book has all you need to know to get a 4 or 5. Sadly, I thought I got a 5 because it all just came so easy on the test. Now take this into consideration before buying this book just because I got a 4 from cramming. You must note that I am a fast memorizer. This is probably mostly because of my genetics or because I took SAT classes during high school and advanced after school tutoring throughout elementary and middle school(like a Kumon if you know what that is) and they train me like a slave throughout my childhood (Sad but worth it I guess in the end). Even though I memorize quickly and can cram a whole book in a day and still recall most of it the next day, that may not work for your personal abilities. It might also just be because I'm a good test taker. So just keep those factors in mind. I am merely giving the community my personal and honest experience with this book and from what I have experienced with it, it is definitely worth every penny.

This book had everything for my ap exam. My teacher was super boring and droned on and on and on.... basically he didn't help much for the ap exam. In desperate need I looked for a book to help me on the AP exam and I somehow stumbled upon this book. It is THE BEST book for gov and I highly recommend it. Nothing is in here that won't be on the test and the topics are presented succinctly. When test day rolled around I finished the 60 minute multiple choice in about 20 minutes. I breezed through the exam. That is not something many people can say about an AP exam. The results payed off when I got my 5 and my college credit. Take it from me, Rick James, ITS THE BEST. Best way to use this book is to gain a strong understanding of everything presented in this book, it not memorize a good amount of it.

This is a nice supplement for AP Government. Even though I had a phenomenal teacher who made my class an entire cookbook as a test prep guide, this book filled in the cracks with a ton of court cases and other useful information that may not be covered in class before the test. I'm anticipating a 4 or a 5 thanks to this book!
