Greek Art And Archaeology: A New History, C. 2500-c. 150 BCE

A richly illustrated, authoritative, and accessible new survey that combines a clear chronological narrative with a fresh and up-to-date account of Greek art and archaeology.Greek Art and Archeology, by Richard T. Neer, is the only comprehensive survey that reflects current scholarly approaches and new ways of looking at both art history and archaeology. The book presents a historical interpretation of Greek art and archaeology within a chronological framework, and balances different methodologies to present a well-rounded picture. The book addresses three basic questions, all of which are skillfully woven into a highly readable narrative that also presents the essential facts that the student needs: • “What do we see?” Students will learn to identify the principles of design in an object and analyze its constituent parts, as well as looking at questions of style, iconography, and medium. • “How do we know?” The book emphasizes the ways archaeologists and art historians gather their evidence and organize their arguments. • “Why should we care?” Art is a social and historical phenomenon, and thus can be a prism through which we learn about politics, economics, class, sexuality, religion, and ethnicity. 432 full-color and 116 black-and-white illustrations

This is a great textbook which reads wonderfully and has a variety of informative maps and other graphics. It tapers out and only spends a single chapter on Hellenistic art, about which you can sense the author is not the biggest fan. Other than that, a great art history reference.

Used as a textbook for Ancient Greek Art. There's a heavy emphasis on pottery, as that's the author's specialty. The chapters are broken into style periods and there are case study chapters pertaining to that particular period following the general chapter. It's a well written book and not a "snoozer" the some art history books have a tendency to be.

Book came on time. I had to get it for a class but I realize that it has a lot of good information and will do nicely as a introduction to Greek art and archaeology for beginners.

Product arrived quickly and was as described.

Does not withstand hot chocolate but otherwise has paper pages with printed words and a front cover, back cover, and spine--cover? functions well as a book but again, does not stand up well when hot chocolate is spilled on it.

AWESOME!
