Among Heroes: A U.S. Navy SEAL's True Story Of Friendship, Heroism, And The Ultimate Sacrifice

From Brandon Webb, Navy SEAL sniper and New York Times bestselling author, comes his personal account of the eight friends and fellow SEALs who made the ultimate sacrifice.   “Knowing these great men—who they were, how they lived, and what they stood for—has changed my life. We can’t let them be forgotten. We’ve mourned their deaths. Let’s celebrate their lives.”—Brandon Webb   As a Navy SEAL, Brandon Webb rose to the top of the world’s most elite sniper corps, experiencing years of punishing training and combat missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. Along the way, Webb served beside, trained, and supported men he came to know not just as fellow warriors, but as friends and, eventually, as heroes.   This is his personal account of eight extraordinary SEALs who gave all for their comrades and their country with remarkable valor and abiding humanity: Matt “Axe” Axelson, who perished on Afghanistan’s Lone Survivor mission; Chris Campbell, Heath Robinson, and JT Tumilson, who were among the casualties of Extortion 17; Glen Doherty, Webb’s best friend, killed while helping secure the successful rescue and extraction of American CIA and State Department diplomats in Benghazi; and other close friends, classmates, and fellow warriors. These are men who left behind powerfully instructive examples of what it means to be alive—and what it truly means to be a hero.

Brandon is my son, While he was on his missions I spent every day trying not to think of what he was doing. Every night praying he would come home safely.I could see how torn up he was when one of his friends didn't make it. And I couldn't get my mind off of those parents, siblings and friends of the fallen. I know you hear about survivors guilt but I had much the same guilt that my amazing son did make it home and that his equally amazing friends did not.It was with wonder and amazement that as I read this book I felt that I now knew each one personally and that even though I knew they didn't make it home I now knew what each was made of, what terrific families they had, and that they had a life well lived, doing things that they loved to do and doing it with men they considered their brothers. This is a tribute to them and their wonderful families. I have a feeling that anyone of them would have done the same for my son had the shoe been on the other foot.

Losing my brother Chris, one of the valiant men featured in the chapter “Rough Men Stand Ready”, continues to be a heartbreaking journey. Chris was not only my brother but my friend, confidant, and protector. Regardless of where he was in the world I felt safe knowing he was somewhere out there. I have met many other sisters whose brothers have been killed since September 11th, and they have expressed similar feelings. On the rare occasion that we have an opportunity to cross paths with someone Chris knew and who is kind and gracious enough to share stories; it is a blessing beyond words! Chris interacted with so many great people during his lifetime and never seemed to meet a stranger (a LOT like our mom). Both Brandon and John have done a remarkable job sharing stories from BUD/S in this book.I’ll never forget the sigh of relief and soaring pride I felt after hearing from my parents that the infamous “Hell Week” had been secured. Attending Chris’ graduation from BUD/S with my parents was a proud moment we were fortunate to experience. Some of the stories in ‘Among Heroes’ I had heard from Chris years ago but over time had forgotten them. Being able to revisit those special times through Brandon recounting those memories is a priceless gift!

I am a SOFREP listener and recently read Brandon Webb's "Red Circle". I really enjoyed "Red Circle" so after hearing some of the audio version of "Among Heros" on the show I decided to preorder and I'm glad I did. This is a great tribute to 8 SEALs that touched Brandon's life and now through his book they have touched mine! I was so captivated by the stories of these men that I couldn't put it down. I think one of Brandon's goals was to make sure these men were remembered and never forgotten and I can assure you that after reading you won't forget. I know I won't! Thanks Brandon for sharing their stories!

Brandon Webb this is Inspirational piece that will live on forever. Each of your friends became our friends. They captivated us in this book just like they captivated you. I loved how you titled each chapter the Visionary, the SuperHero, the Best Friend and shared what they represented to you. So relatable and heart felt. Just like how I wanted to walk up to you and give you the biggest hug after reading the Red Circle I wanted to do the same with each of them. :). Thank you for sharing these stories about true friendship, loyalty, respect and passion. -Maria Emma

I don't nor want to know war firsthand, but the burdens placed on familes and the loses of war I've lived and felt personally. After returning home from abroad, today I sat down and read Among Heroes both sobbing and laughing my way through in one sitting. The author(s) has an eloquent and tasteful way of writing that truly honors each of his friends lives and legacy. He shines their remarkable traits in a vulnerable, humanizing, and real way. The reader gains understanding for the character of these men and what makes up men like them. It's a touching and enjoyable read that leaves a lasting impression with a desire to become a better person.I aviod most war hero books because theyre too painful. This book made me happy to be back home and reminded me that I am proud to be an American. It will also be reading I'll encourage for my son someday when he's older.

I really appreciate the stories of these great men and their service. It seemed to me there was quite a bit more about Brandon than of these brave men. I've read a couple of Brandon's book and followed him in the media so most of his stories are repetitious. More about these great men would have put this book over the top. Didn't quite feel the connection he was trying to portray that he had with these heroes. Somewhat disappointed.

I don't know of any other word to describe Brandon Webb's latest best seller but OUT "*******" STANDING!!!!!! Brandon has recently been catching a bunch of crap from other seals about his so-called "cashing in" on his time with the teams, by writing these best sellers and giving very informative interviews on channels such as Fox and CNN. Brandon's work has actually helped dispel some of the negativity and myths that some have of our Special Operations community. He poured his heart out in this terrific book. I really hate that I have finished the book. I will definitely go back from time to time to re-read it just to get those good "vibes' again such as I got when reading it for the first time. Everyone needs to lay off Brandon. He has worked too hard to finally get to where he is today, and everyone should be proud that they have him in their corner whenever the need arises.

Do not buy anything from this turd, he's a disgrace to our community. He is black balled from the SEAL community with his lies and is only trying to make money off of our fallen brothers. His own combat stories are all fabricated!!!!!
