This book contains an enormous variety of first hand accounts dating back almost 5000 years! I think the really old ones are best, and these are typically quite short (e.g., 1 to 2 pages). Much of the book centers upon the last century, but there is still plenty of really old content in the first 1/3 of the book. Look at the book dimensions! You're definitely getting your money worth.
If you like History and hated the boring stuff in History books in school, then this is a book you might like. It is fascinating to actually "hear" what people said at the time. I got this for my Husband and he loves reading it . You can jump around and read across the spectrum... and not get an "E" for jumping around in the book.
This rates 3.5 - 4 stars for me. The reason is because I wish there was more from the ancient time period. There is one small submission from ancient Sumer. The bulk is Industrial Revolution and Modern Day. I am happy I purchased it because it is a good resource - just expected more.
Great book to just pick up amd read a section, amd put it down, later pick it up and read somewhere else in the book. HUSBAND LOVES IT?
