If Buehl didn't talk about his life or his wife so much, I would be able to give this book a 5 star review- however, there are so many roundabout anecdotes that it waters down the utility of this book. When read carefully, there are many gems, and Buehl pays close attention to accommodate teachers of all subject areas in the reading process- this is the best part- because Buehl affirms that reading happens across all contents, not just English Language Arts classrooms.

Doug's publications are outstanding. As an instructor in the teacher preparation program for undergrad and graduate students at a local college, Doug's strategies and considerations are a major component of my syllabus. I highly recommend this book and others from Doug Buehl.

Anything by Doug Buehl is worth a read, this was a great resource for reading specialists working in middle and high schools who need to make all curricula accessible (even from Physics class)

The book is great for all single subject teachers who are not English teachers. The book has many tools and strategies that could be used to help students understand subject specific content.
