I find data sources such as this to be quite valuable. For example, I am currently developing a data base, upon which to write a paper to present at a political science conference. This Factbook is one source for the data set that I am building. Thus, this work actually has value to me as an academic political scientist.Common items are developed for all countries, so that one can, for instance, compare educational level attained by citizens (average). All in all, a good investment from my perspective.
This 938 page publication is a great and handy CIA reference book. It is virtually a CIA almanac containing facts, statistics and information on other countries. This concise publication contains maps, data on military capabilities, political leanings and other information. This book is one of the first of its kind.
This is an indispensable reference book for information related to all the countries in the world. It contains demographic information as well as information related to other topics (e.g. politics, religion, etc.).
The Factbook has been around for years. Excellent reference on virtually any country on earth including maps. One note; this is a monochrome version, the more expensive versions are a bit larger and the maps are in color. Great addition to your reference library.
It gives thorough and up to date information about the countries of the world. It is a handy reference for any operative before entering a country, or during an in-country tour. It gives A to Z information. It also gives good information for non-CIA personnel, such as business men, tourists, investors and other visitors.
Despite the 2015 date on this, the beginning says it only goes up to September 2014. Unfortunately its contents cover events ending months before then. It is available online for free, so that may be the best way to go for those needing more up-to-date info. More troubling are questions of its accuracy. Daniel Pipes, the scrupulous Middle East scholar, has recently pointed out the conflicting information it provides about Turkey. Nevertheless, this is a useful book to have around as an easy source of information.
An essential reference for anybody interested in the basic facts of countries around the world, updated regularly by a trusted source. Everything from demographics, to economics, geography, & more. Not a travel guide, but a country by country reference. A "must have" for anybody that discusses current events with others.
A wealth of information you can use especially if you travel abroad or work as an expat. Facts and unbiased information you can rely on and use. I recommend it.
