The doctor recommended that I get this book and read it for more information about my upcoming prostate surgery. The book is excellent. It does a thorough summary of the subject, Treatment options, what to expect from the options, and what you can expect after the selected treatment. it was easy to read, but still has a lot of backup data.Once I had read the book, I gave it to my son so he could could start a lot earlier than I did to keep a very close eye on prostate cancer and the range of tests that can be done for people who have a family history of prostate cancer.Bottom line: it's a very good book, easy to read, and covers the topic very thoroughly. A must-have for anyone considering the treatment options available for prostate cancer.
As I was recently diagnosed with t2 Prostate cancer ,I was referred by my doctor to purchase this book 3rd edition. It was the best purchase I have made concerning Prostate health issues.This book is written in an easy to understand format which explains all the questions and answers that you need to know about before you make any decisions It will help you make an informed decision on what steps you might want to take in treating this disease. It explains all the latest options and procedures you need to know about before you make any decision.I highly recommend this book and I know It will help put your mind somewhat at ease.
This is the first book I read as I explored prostate cancer, and it was a great introduction to the subject, giving me language and data that helped me focus my continued research in other books, on the web, and in discussion. It really contains a lot of helpful information in very clear, helpful language. The only reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 has more to do with the Kindle version than the book itself. The charts are very hard to read in the Kindle version; they are poorly copied. (Not to mention that I was having trouble getting it synced across devices, and the idiot rep who I talked to on the phone told me to remove it from my device and download it again. He assumed I had an actual Kindle which keeps a backup, which I didn't. I read Kindle books on my Android phone and PC, and these version don't back up data. So I lost all bookmarks, notes, etc. Again, this is no reflection on the book or the author, just the poorly trained reps at Kindle.)
When I was diagnosed in 2009, my doctor gave me a copy of this book. My wife and I both read it (it's a book you can just sit down and read in a single evening!). We then discussed options and I made a list of things I wanted to discuss with my doctor before making my final decision. He answered my questions which were mostly of the "did I understand Dr Ellsworth correctly that . . . .?"I elected surgery and am a four-year survivor so far with no signs of recurrence.I have bought several copies of this book in current editions as presents for men I know who have asked about my experience. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! If you or someone you know is facing the decisions one must make when the doctor says, "Sorry to have to tell you this, but you do have prostate cancer." --- if you know such a person, get this book for that person and help him to be prepared for the real-life discussion and decisions he and his doctor will have to make.Prostate cancer is a life-changing event, but it does not have to be a tragedy. This book will help a man and his partner see what things they have to choose from and what the pros and cons of each are.Great book!
This is a must have for anyone looking at prostate cancer options. It is easy to read, well laid out, and readily understandable. I bought it for a friend and now two other people have already read the the book. Good stuff.
Excellent source of information for ones starting out to educate themselves concerning this disease. I found it not to be slanted or biased in one direction or the other concerning possible treatments as I did with some of the other publications I have read recently. It is also very helpful for those that just recently were diagnosed with prostate cancer in having questions ready for their doctor on their next visit.
Informative, well organized. Provided all the information we needed to be mentally prepared to face the surgery and aftermath. The book was actually recommended by our surgeon. We as prostate cancer survivor would highly recommend the book too.
A clear and objective review of the material presented in a clear easy to read and understand manner. Reassuring to any one going thru this frightening experience as an addition to the advice and counsel of your physician. You don't love this book --you appreciate it.
