Our 8 1/2 year old son is really enjoying this journal after about a month of use. We were looking for something to help him with his comprehension and reinforce his joy of reading. This fun journal is just the thing. The book is spiral bound so little hands can easily access their work. Each page has a perforated corner to remove as the book worm eats his way through the journal. As your child completes a page in the journal (either a book or a chapter), he can remove the page corner. These eaten corners are also a handy bookmark to find their "spot" in the journal. The pages are lined with large spacing so young readers can easily write their thoughts neatly.

I wish I had thought about this sooner. Kindergarten is a great time to start using this journal. My oldest is currently at the end of first grade and we've just started recording the books she's reading. For each book you've read (and you can document whether it was read to your child, read together, or read by your child alone) you will record the title, author, the # of stars (from 1-5) as determined by the parent and child separately, and then there's blank lines for your child to record their thoughts. Each book goes on a separate page in the journal. Then, on the back of that page are activities for your child. She can write the new vocabulary words, insert herself into the story, tell what she likes to eat while reading, etc.I think this is a really fun journal which offers many tools: keeping an organized lists of books read to date, having your child document her experiences with the book, and also having your child complete an activity in relationship to the book.I'm excited to start on this journey with her, and will purchase additional copies for my younger daughter who start kindergarten in the fall. We will begin by recording what books I read to her during the school year, and will end the school year by recording the books we read together as well as the books she's reading to me. I can't wait!

My little 8 yr old boy loved this and has found good use since he's a reader! I just wish it had my lines to write so it wouldn't look so messy but all in all it's a great journal to keep track of reads :)

So awesome. Exactly what I was looking for in order for my 7-year old daughter to log the chapter books she is reading in 2nd grade. It has pages for about 50 books that are two sided. One offers a place to list the title, author and date read, as well as star rating icons, and then a "why I liked this book" section. The back of the pages varies from page to page...sometimes a maze, sometimes a place to list new vocab words, or to draw, etc. I will be giving this a gift to others as well.

I purchased this for my daughter at the end of 2nd grade to record her summer reading. She is now reading chapter books so it will take a while to fill, but I think this past month she's added 5. I love that it enforces some writing over the summer (in addition to the obvious reading) and I think she'll really enjoy looking back at the books she's read. She loved the beginning section where was was able to fill out info on herself & her "worm" including giving him a name. It has a great book mark system & also have addition activities on the back on the pages. ie today she had a maze, last book she had a question, "Write what you think happens after the end of this book"....A great gift for those who have started reading chapter books!

This is the neatest reading log! It involves kids & their parents. There is space for kids to write and after they've written about a book, they can remove a small corner of the page (already perforated) to feed the "bookworm". The missing corner now exposes the next page ready for writing and the bookworm can "chomp" on the corner "leaf". I especially like that children are involved with their parents in completing the pages.

sent it to grand niece and have heard that she loves it! I looked at it in a book store for much more money. I would recommend it for parents who are trying to get their children to not just read, but learn the skill of writing as well.

Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my co-worker's son, whom she reads to nightly. He is a little bookworm. She was looking for something to keep track of what she reads to him. So glad I got it!
