I waited for quite some time for the release of "Forward My Brave Boys!" and I was not disappointed! The authors exhaustively researched the history of the 11the Tennessee thought historical documents and weave fascinating narrative of life during the Civil War for the grunts who fought it. While I hoped for more information about my ancestor, Jason Figg, I realize that there is not much more known about him than is what in the book. I spent several years trying to find his grave but I am convinced that he was one of the 3000 unknown Confederate Soldiers killed in the Battles of Peachtree Creek and Atlanta and buried beneath the Lion of the Confederacy in Oakland Cemetary in Atlanta. Thanks to the authors.
This book certainly did not disappoint me..and it was worth waiting for!! I have never read book on one unit that was as thorough as this book. I love the fact that it takes the 11th all the way from the beginning of the war until war's end. First hand letters and comments were included and they too were in order with the battle discussed. The authors gave the names and history..before, during, and after the war..of the men of the 11th. It was a thrill to read about the battles as they occurred and the mens' comments. My ancestors were included, and I really appreciate this. These authors have put so much time into this book. I can promise you that you will not regret purchasing this book. Every historian needs this book on their bookshelf. I wish there were more books written about separate units with as much information as this book.
This is an amazing work. Very detailed and informative. Great first hand accounts that brings the past to life.
Excellent and well-researched work on the 11th Tennessee. Well worth the read.
