The authors' field guide to Gettysburg should be owned or at least read to provide an indication of the quality of this current effort. Organized along virtually the same format as the former, this guide provides a look at and description of as well as considerable additional information on multiple events and phases of what Southerners call the Battle of Sharpsburg. If there is any criticism to be made here, it focuses on a necessary sin of omission: Unfortunately, some actions or phases had to be left out. Otherwise, the information included for the twenty one stops (and other related subsidiary stops) should be enough to educate and pique the interest of those whose idea of a day well spent is wandering battlefields and other historic sites which touch upon this nation's history.
