This is a great book. I wish everybody would take the time to read this book. If you're even thinking of buying this book, don't hesitate!! It will be the best $6 you spend on . This book was first published in 1951. The author was born in1880, shortly after the war between the states was over. He was around while people who lived through the war were still alive and could still tell it like it was. Not the political correctness that has distorted the truth more and more with each passing year. Read this short 77 page book and it will open your eyes. This book will also give you all this facts you need in the event somebody thinks you're a racist for displaying the confederate flag. Display the confederate flag proudly. There is nothing to be ashamed of. I wish more people would proudly display the confederate flag, even if it's just a license plate or sticker on your car. The flag stands for southern pride and standing up for what's right it's not about racism or hate. Arm yourself with the facts.
Just like the title of the book says, this book is about facts the historians leave out . Concise, written with plain English and based on facts and records. It's suitable not only for school kids but for readers of all ages. Debunks Yankee propaganda about the A. Lincoln, South, slavery, reasons for secession and the war. It is a very good primer for somebody who was infused with Northern point of view and I believe will encourage the reader for further study on the subject of Southern independence.
Five stars for brevity and references. Able to read further following the citations as sources. Very little hyperbole. Seems to be simply presenting historical evidence rather than presenting an editorial. Great read for those seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding the war.
looking for a kindle copy for a long time. gives you a quick overview of the war from a southernâ point of view
Excellent reminder of the events that prompted the South to secede, one Northern insult after another. And then the essential forcing of South Carolina to fire on Fort Sumpter. But the victors write the history.
It is so true that the winners of a war are the ones that get to write the official history about it - causes, how it went any any after effects and the image of the victor. And that has never been more a factor than in how history has depicted the American Civil War.Tilley dies a great job of in concise, easy to read terms lays out the case for how the South (as well as the North) had agreed to join a voluntary association of "free and independent states" - until Lincoln and his ilk decided to make that association mandatory.Tilley points out how small a factor slavery really was in this conflict and how - despite the leftist spin to the contrary - it really was a battle over States Rights vs the power of an overarching oppressive federal government machine - the VERY THING the founding fathers feared the govt could become if not expressly limited in power.Very thought-provoking yet easy to read
I was very surprised by Lee's and Jackson's view toward slavery, as well as the rather innocent and somewhat unrealistic view of the reaction of the Federal government regarding their secession from the Union. This book really casts a new light on Abraham Lincoln whom we were raised to practically venerate.
Much of this information I was taught in history classes MANY years ago, but had forgotten. I really enjoyed reading this and remembering just what this country was all about in the beginning. It is very saddening to realize that many generations after me weren't taught much, or any of this information, and I think some them just truly don't care. I will recommend this book to many of my family and friends.
