The rules keep changing on us and this book keeps the sanity possible and the word meaningful.After I received the first book, I ordered a second for my 13-year-old. I love the DeMystified series of books. I have read over ten of these books already. I wanted to brush up on my grammar for some grant writing. It is not easy to understand. Kinda jumps right into grammar without basic breakdown of what a verb is. In one chapter is goes over verbs, adverbs, linking verbs. Out of all the DeMystified books; this is my least favorite.
The author has made the mystery of grammar as clear as possible, given all the diverse and multiple uses/meanings/purposes of our wonderful collection of words known as the English language.
I can't take this book seriously. There is a typo on the cover. Look for "wih" rather than "with." I've not read the book, but if they can't manage to proof the cover, what does the inside look like?
I thought it would be better. I am glad though to have book like these. They always have some helpful hints.
There are past perfect errors in this text. The past perfect is an important tense and if you want to speak and write English correctly, you will need to know what it is and how to use it. This author does not know what it is and how to use it. The same can be said for the present perfect, which also contains errors."Grammar in Plain English", of which Dutwin was a co-author in 2005, doesn't get them right either. Too bad someone didn't notice. It's amazing how easily wrongness perpetuates itself. Is no one paying attention? Students: If it doesn't make sense, question it. Don't just accept it because it's in the book. If textbook authors learned it wrong, so will you.
The book is an excellent reference for writing papers.
