Gender, Race, And Class In Media: A Critical Reader

From gender issues in Desperate Housewives, to race in Ugly Betty, gender biases in video games, and portrayals of the American family in Extreme Makeover, to analyzes of new genres like fandom and social media - no other book is so successful in engaging students in critical media scholarship. By encouraging students to critically analyze those media they already interact with for pleasure, and by editing the articles, Gail Dines and Jean Humez are able to make sophisticated concepts and theories accessible and interesting to undergraduate students.

This Book Is Awesome. After reading this book my eyes have been opened to many of the tricks and methods the elite use to oppress and keep middle class and lower class people "in their place". Would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how the elite use controlling tactics and manipulation to subtly control the mind.

This book was in great condition. It is very intersting and I am enjoying learning about all of the different ways people are degraded daily in ways that I had never opened my eyes up to.I am using this book as a text book in my class called Media, Culture, and Identity. It is the main source of information and material in the class. I enjoy this class and I don't think it would be as good if we were not using this text.

Excellent compilation of writings on media. In fact, the best if it's kind. Will use it for my next class on media culture. A brainy delight. The second edition is better than the first, so I can't wait to read the third, coming up this spring

I liked the fact that it was more of a collection of works, instead of a classic chapter textbook. More enjoyable to read

Somewhat interesting. It looks at how we are all changed by the race we are and how we are able to live our lives. If you don't have a class don't waste your money on this book..

It's an excellent text for my Gender, Race, and Sexuality in the Media course! I would read the essays if they weren't assigned.

got the book on time. needed it for communications major. lots of interesting articles that I have read so far.

Great read! Needed it for a class and actually enjoyed reading a lot of it.
