I had been unemployed for almost a year when I picked up Winning Answers to 500 Interview Questions. I had been on a lot of interviews of many different types: structured, unstructured, panel, one-on-one, test based, interview based, phone, with recruiters, with managers, with consultants, etc. After a while the interviews begin the blend together. While I started off really preparing for each one, eventually I was just relying on my skills answering questions to get through the processes.One day a friend handed me this book. I immediately recognized many of the questions that were in the book as ones that I had gotten on interviews. I also saw a bunch that I was glad that I hadn't been asked.The book gives a concise way of approaching questions: categorizing them based on intent and answering them in such a way that really moves the interview in the direction that I want it to be going.One major way that the book helped me was that I would review questions on my way to an interview. Not that I expected to be asked the specific questions I was reviewing, but it would get me into the mindset of answering a certain type of question a certain way.For early morning or late afternoon interviews especially, it became a necessary tool to get me focused and ready to rock an interview. Before I was using the book in this way it was sometimes hard for me to get into the mood to be interviewed especially after I had gone on a lot of interviews (sometimes for the same job) and was pretty sick of the process.End of the story, I eventually got the right job. Interestingly, the interview that finally did it was the one that asked questions that were the most similar to the types of questions that this book prepared me to answer.I highly recommend it.
