I read this book out of self-interest. I'm not a teacher, I'm a small business owner who has hired and (unfortunately) had to let go those who could follow an order, but not create and follow their own plan. In a small business you don't have time to give out a job descriptions on every task, you have to have self starters with some common sense. This book is a pathway to teach common sense while helping others at the same time.Change the World with Service Learning is a very big step in the right direction to create the kind of employees and next door neighbors, we want to see more of. I would highly recommend it for any curriculum and also suggest more non-profits read it and then partner with a local school.

Finally! A guide written by a practicing teacher about how to create meaningful service learning projects that meet standards, fit curricular goals, and motivate students. Teachers don't need one more thing to do. This book helps teachers take what they are already doing and transition into using service learning with clear and doable tips, steps and advice. The book is also loaded with ready to use or modify teaching resources. It's like having your own service learning mentor teacher at your side to help you develop every aspect of your planning and projects. In addition, if you need to convince anyone about the value of service learning and the many benefits to students, the book has ample research and evidence on this. As a current public school teacher, I find this book extremely valuable, relevant, approachable, and easy to use.
