Papa Bear reads to Brother and Sister from their storybook Bible about the first Christmas.While I have always found the Berenstain Bears books to be full of teachable moments and moral lessons, I'm really liking the faith stories that have come out.I found this book to be fairly accurate in the telling of Christ's birth and my grandchildren, as always, enjoyed me reading it to them. I also love the illustrations as the characters that portray the birth of Christ are all Bears. The Very First Christmas fits perfectly with what I have come to expect in a Berenstain Bears book.
I do the 25 days of Christmas books in December. I wrap each book ahead of time and my daughter opens one each day to read. We have done it the last 2 years. The first year I used a lot of older second hand Christmas books. Now each year I add a couple newer ones that are themes she currently likes. This was a great addition to our collection!
Mike and Jan Berenstain hit a home run with the Berenstain Bears "The Very First Christmas." This was the first time I chose to read and review a children's book, but with six kids, who could ask for a better critic.As soon as I ripped open the envelope, both of my little girls grabbed for the book. My seven year old and 2 year old are ardent fans of the Berenstain Bears. I happened to arrive home in time for the youngest one's nap, so we cuddled up together and I read the book.Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by the book's content. I've noted in other Berenstain stories that the books teach a moral lesson, but I didn't expect this book to be so Biblical in nature. In a culture where some wage war on Christmas, booting nativities from the public square, "The Very First Christmas" teaches the true meaning of Christmas in a manner making any Christian parent proud to read it to their children.I was especially impressed that the authors didn't lump the Wisemen with the Shepherds at the manger scene. In "The Very First Christmas" the Wisemen deliver their precious gifts to Jesus at the house where he and his family lived.I would recommend this book to any parent wanting to share the true meaning of Christmas!

And an excellent book to include in the project. I recommend it. It appears age appropriate. I was disappointed in this book because it contains the exact same story & artwork from the Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible. If you have that children's Bible, then this book may not be worth the money. If you don't, then this book is good to have.
I purchased one for my daughter and one for a family member. It was a little more wordy than I expected. This is fine, for now it is certainly a book I will read to my daughter rather than encouraging her to read it to me. Still a good book for Christmas.
As with all Berenstain Bears books, this book was a fun read with nice pictures. It very accurately, and at a sweet, child-like level, talks about the Christmas Story. It will forever be a classic in our house!
I grew up on reading the Berenstain Bears. Classic stories that I still can remember today. I was happy to review this book and share a great story with my kids. It begins with Papa Bear reading to Brother, Sister and Honey on Christmas Eve Night. A story from their storybook bible. It goes on to explain the night Jesus was born and its very kid friendly and explained well for my little ones on the visit to Mary and how when Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem she had her baby in the manger. Then the visit from the three wise men. I think this story is excellent for children to read, it shows them of a family reading about bible stories and how its a joy to read the great story of The Very First Christmas and most importantly the the true meaning why we celebrate Christmas. There are even some questions and family activities in the back of the book that was nice for my son to reflect on after reading this. It's an excellent book that I am happy to add to our collection!I received this free to read and review. All opinions are 100% my own!
