Lung Cancer: A Guide To Diagnosis And Treatment

What is my prognosis? What are my treatment options? Which therapies would be the most effective for my stage of lung cancer? These and other frequently asked questions are addressed in this crucial reference designed to help patients educate themselves and obtain the best possible treatments. The completely revised second edition has been updated to include a discussion of the movement towards customized chemotherapy; treatment options for early-stage lung cancer including minimally invasive surgery; and the most promising treatments, among them multimodality therapy—a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Dr. Scott also surveys tests for early detection of lung cancer, talks about the importance of cancer staging, examines alternative treatments, and offers advice on coping with emotions such as "smoker's guilt."

Dr.Scott's book is comprehensive and offers not only fact-based research and methods of diagnosis, but it also covers the highly emotive issues surrounding the possible causes of lung cancer, including the subject of 'smokers guilt'.This book is a must have for EVERY home, whether it is simply an addition to your home library or you have been diagnosed with the disease, or know someone who has it.I am embarrassed and humbled by the fact that I am the first person on to review this remarkable book. Do yourself a favour, get interested in health-care and go and buy it.

My mother has this and I found this book to have plenty of easy information to understand in the areas of;signs/symptoms, what can cause or be aggravating factors in this disease, what types of treatmentsare available and the side effects are and how helpful and harmful the side effects can be, also this bookmentions how vital good communication between the patient and his or her doctors must be.

This book enables the patient and family members to educate themselves specifically about lung cancer and terms that they may be presented with by a multitude of practitioners. When patients and families are able to educate themselves it gives them the power and confidence to ask direct questions to individuals that are involved with managing their care. This is an excellent, forthright book that provides information on stages and treatment of lung cancer.

This book contains a nice overview of lung cancer and its current treatments. I was disappointed that it was very thin on treatment combinations and when they were appropriate and when not. He did no speculating on possible near future treatments. This book might be of value to the naive but that's it. He must be a practitioner and not a futurist.

I have treated thousands of patients with lung cancer over the years. I was motivated to write "Lung Cancer: A Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment" by the realization that, when it comes to quality lung cancer care, most patients don't know what it is or how to get it. I wrote this book to give patients and caregivers the knowledge they need to find the best care, to research the internet, to ask the right questions, and to choose the best treatment. If you have lung cancer, the old saying that "knowledge is power" has never been truer. -- Walter ScottWalter J. If you just need facts about lung cancer, this little guide will help you. It is straight-forward and will help you understand stages of lung cancer and the different types of treatment.

Very good information if you know nothing. Very little new information if you have talked to patients or doctors at all about cancers.

Good discussion of lung cancer basics.
