This is a great study guide. It was the only one I used and between studying with this guide and reading through the DSM, I passed the ASWB Clinical exam with flying colors 16 years after I finished my MSW. I highly recommend it. If you follow her tips, and use the guide as an indicator of what you know and what you need to know a little bit better you will do well.
Passed the LCSW the first try! I graduated with my MSW in 2008 and knew I had a lot of reviewing to do. i know this book helped me get all the reviewing that I needed. I read it twice, had a really good DSM 5 Power Point, and used a LCSW App (Pocket Prep purchased). I think the test was really hard. I thought it would be more detail about theories but not the test I got...was mostly ethical questions. What would you do first...apply Maslow and the EatPie (in book) to most questions. Very clinical...dah. I studied for 4 months to build my confidence. This book has so many benefits. Test anxiety, getting things in order in your mind, ways to study and test, and the practice test. What I liked about the practice test was not so much that the questions asked would be on the test but each question made me think and go back and study that specific topic. I was surprised how well I did on the test. The App, I mentioned above was super hard so I was even more prepared..probably overly. I agree with others that reviewed this book, the mile wide and 1 inch deep knowledge is the way to think about your studying for the LCSW. Remember safety first on a lot of questions. Very logical and book smart is what you need to get use to for the test. Good luck and I'm sure you will do great. I am so releaved I passed!
This book saved my life! Not literally, but it is amazing. It is comprehensive and added more content than other social work exam prep books. I need the extra content and find this book to be very readable. It's well organized and has the most recent study material (i.e. DSM-V info).
This is the best LICSW test prep manual I found after long searching. It was very helpful in raising my confidence level, and reviewing theory and practice concepts.
Incredibly helpful resource and much less expensive than online prep courses! Less expensive than a practice test alone! Passed the exam first time! Information is well-organized and clearly presented.
This was the only study guide I used. Took the LCSW test this week and passed with flying colors. Study this book front to back repeatedly, learn everything in it, and you are set.
This guide was extremely helpful and contributed a great deal while preparing for my clinical exam. The tips were great and the overall content helped to pull everything together for me. I purchased the guide 5 weeks before my exam (which I recently passed!). I highly recommend this guide.
I am currently studying to take the ASWB exam. My state just changed to this format for exam after all the time I spent studying for the California LCSW clinicals. Previously, Interns were spending about $350-$600 on study materials. This book at $70 covers what most people would need to be successful in a test like this. It gives study tips, discusses the layout of the test to orient you and then gives plenty of sample questions with an answer key. Let me make this clear, it is the next best thing to having copies of the test.
