I am a family nurse practitioner student and this book is a great quick reference. It is by no means exhaustive and there are other more thorough references but I like the quick review this book provides. This is easy to carry with you to a clinical site and access before you present to your preceptor. It has helped me to glance at this before I finish with the patient to make sure that I have covered all the bases. It has also been a great reference for case studies or when I have to submit a written SOAP note for a class.
I bought this book to help me write my soap notes while in nurse practitioner school. Although the book is listed as "family medicine," it also includes OB, peds, derma, ortho and psych. This book was very helpful to me and my teachers always complimented me on my work. I have recommended this book to other students.
I purchased this book for a guide and refresher for training Physician Assistants students. I find it useful in sharpening thier notes and honing their clinic interview skills.
Was hoping for a reference with template SOAPs or examples with how to approach writing SOAPs... this book does not have much of that. What it does have is a list of abbreviations, normal lab values, and some considerations when approaching a patients and important areas to assess. All listed diagnosis' are worked up in a soap format and limited to 2 pages total.
Was expecting something more useful/helpful in writing SOAP notes. I didn't find anything more than I received in class. Was wanting some examples and common verbiage used when creating a SOAP note.
Love this book, especially for students in clinical. I will forget all the things to do, meds to order, things to assess, labs to order, etc and this book has all the answers. I just wish I had found it earlier in the semester. What's great is once you look something up a few times, you learn what your supposed to do and don't need the book. It's a must have for all students. Your preceptors will think your so smart! I don't think it's useful for practicing doctors and nurse practitioners b/c you probably already know all this stuff!
This was an ok reference. I don't use it that much because there isn't much time to look things up before seeing a patient. I wanted to read examples of different notes before starting my last year but this is more of a bullet point list for subjective questions, exam findings and tx options for a variety of conditions. It's not bad but I think it may be in need of an update.
This book provides a 2 page synopsis for common complaints in primary care which includes helpful reminders for each of the SOAP components: Subjecive complaints (and what to ask about); Objective findings (what to look for on exam and which labs you might need); Assessment (what to include); Plan (how to move forward). I always take it with me to clinicals and I've started using it to review for tests as well. Well worth the money.
