I have to edit my review on this to take away a star (from 4 to 3) because there are a ridiculous amount of calculation mistakes in this book. It seems like every other page has errors. I am thinking that either... 1. Maybe a professor had students do the calculations and didn't check it. 2. Whoever typed the info doesn't know math. AND/OR 3. Whoever edited this book doesn't know math. I have wasted so much time just trying to figure out what they did and make corrections so that I am sure that I understand the topic.Overall I do like how this book is laid out. There is a check list at the beginning of each section which helps to make sure you have the concepts down and 3 full length tests at the back. Each of the test questions has a note which says which concept number it is from which makes it nice to refer to and the tests have all of the answers worked out in the answer sections. Like the other reviewers I have found several errors (both in calculation and in grammar/punctuation) and some of them have made reviewing these concepts a little difficult and/or time consuming. I also feel that in most of the examples they skipped steps and kind of jumped to conclusions without really saying how they got there by working out every step (I was able to work through it all but I do have a bachelors in math, it has just been several years since I have seen some of these concepts). All in all I would buy it again, partly because I couldn't find many other TExES Math 7-12 since the 7-12 certification is relatively new. (((I have been using the book as a guide to review but have also been using math websites to supplement where the book lacked explanations or had errors)))
The sample tests are helpful. However, if you did not major in math this will not teach you the competencies required. This book is an explanation of what is on the test and points you there. There are no sample problems for you to solve and it moves so quickly through the material that if you don't know something you must research the topic to understand how the equations are being solved. I am surprised they can call this a "study guide" because it merely informs you what is on the test, doesn't help you prepare at all besides the tests.
I purchased this book to help me review concepts for the TExES 7-12 Mathematics exam. I am currently on page 123 of the book and I've already found at least 9 errors! I like that the book is broken down into the domains, competencies, and skills that are tested on the exam. I also like that the book includes 3 full sample tests with answers and rationales. The information is great for review, but you need to have a good understanding of some concepts or the errors may cause some confusion.
Absolutely dissatisfied with this review book. I wish I had read the reviews others had left before buying it because they are 100% right. There are multiple math errors throughout the text, so much so that I'm concerned that I'm not learning the material correctly. The good news is I already have an aptitude for math, so I am able to catch many of the mistakes and figure it out on my own. But then why did I even buy the book if I'm just teaching myself anyway. Please do yourself a favor and go another route.
There are language and math content errors. This book needs proper editing. It is most unfair that someone preparing for an important assessment puts his or her confidence in a text that has errors.
It is good for math majors but there is not enough details for non-math majors. Some mistakes in the book. Real test is much harder than those practicing tests.
I passed my test on the first try!
Exactly what I was looking for.
