Despite having a lot of information in this book, it does not cover everything you need to know for the NEW Core test. That edition is due to come out in March (so wait to buy that one if you are wanting to test soon!). When I got to the test I felt pretty under prepared after spending every waking moment in this book and studying each competency that was targeted on the Diagnostic and Practice Tests. It's a good book and is very informative, but I believe it best benefited those who were able to take the old generalist test.
This was the only thing I used to study for my exam! It was a great study guide! I really loved the online test and how it broke down what you needed to study and what you needed more review in. I divided the book into 15 study days and did an exam a week. I just received my score and I passed !!! I would completely recommend this book for anyone looking for a great study guide!
I am taking the content exam in a week. This book does give a great deal of content and includes 2 practice tests. You can check your answers on the answer key at the end of the test and then it gives a brief explanation of each question and why the answer choices for those questions are correct or incorrect. The problem is that a few of the questions have discrepancies. For example, question 97 of the 2nd Practice test lists the answer as "D" on the answer key but in the explanation for the answer it lists "C" as the correct answer. There are a few other questions that are a little messed up where the multiple choice letter doesn't coincide with the explanation for that particular question. So even if you got answers right as you checked them on the answer key, you might want to double check in the explanation section to make sure the answer was REALLY right. I'll update this review once I've taken the content exam to compare how well the study guide actually prepares one to take the test.
Great study guide! I was well prepared for the exam after reading this book and taking the practice exams. I was expecting the online tests to be different than the ones in the book, but they were the same. All in all, I highly recommend. I have already purchased the EC-6 Generalist book to help me study for that upcoming exam.
I'm guessing this textbook works well for the previous test in Texas before they changed it. The practice test in the end was useless and completely different than the new test. I used both the core subjects (the yellow textbook) and this generalist ec-6 and neither books were helpful on the test. I would say get another study guide to help you on the test.I probably should've waited for a better study guide (possibly the new core subjects from the same publisher) to study for your test.
I was a bit overwhelmed with all the information but was very helpful with the structure of the test. I passed the test on my 1st try and only had a week to study.
My sister is working toward her qualifications to be a teach in Texas and she said this was the one that came most recommended so I got it for her as a gift. Thanks to Prime it shipped free and was delivered this past Saturday.She said that the instructions say to first take an assessment test before you study to see where your strengths and weaknesses are and then you work through the program both using the book and the online together.
What a help in preparing to take my teaching certification! I was looking for a resource that would have all the information I needed in one place, and this really was it. This guide made it very easy to study. It had everything I needed. There is even a schedule that helped me get organized, so I didn't feel like I was in over my head. The sample test questions are listed with the competency so it is easy to review areas you miss. The explanations make it clear why I missed the question and let me focus on what I needed to review in more detail. The full length tests gave me a really good idea of what the real test was going to be like. I really think this guide helped me a lot and I may not have passed without it.
