While most would say that this test is basic "common sense," I wasn't so confident, since it had been years since I had any type of formal schooling. The fact that I had to dish out $45 out of my own pocket was quite motivational as well! Anyway, the test is divided into three categories consisting of; Reading, Math, and Writing. A few questions within each category were devoted to hypothetical "application" in regards to a paraprofessional.My strategy for tackling the Parapro Assessment test, was to take the practice test offered in this book, identify my weaknesses, and brushing up on them from there. The book offers easy to understand explanations that were helpful to my relearning of problems, and basic formulas that I had not seen since my days as a middle school student.On Test day, I found out that the questions were very much like the ones presented in this book. I never felt overwhelmed or discouraged. The test allows for 2 1/2 hours, but I finished in about an hour and a half. As it was the computer based version of the test, I was able to get the immediate results. I will not forget the words of the instructor, "Wow! You aced it!" No, it wasn't a perfect score, but I ended up garnering a 22 of 25 for reading, 24 of 25 for math, and 23 of 25 for writing. My overall score was 479 out of a possible 480.A fellow co-worker who had not prepared, took the test with me and failed. I firmly believe that if she had the study guide and knew what to expect, the results would have been different. In all honesty, the test really isn't that difficult, but why take the chance, especially if you're having to put money down? Get the book, know the test, kick it's ass!
I bought this book for my mother who was paying $10 a week to rent the book from the school system she works for. She was stressing about passing the test and all the money she would spend to rent a book to study. I found the identical book on  for a great price. Needless to say she passed the test and didn't have to keep renting a book.
