Knowing the Imam is an encyclopaedic work consisting of 18 volumes, which covers almost all aspects of the Imamate in Twelver Shiism, from the historical to the theological, and the philosophical to the mystical. It began life as a series of lessons before being transcribed. Volume 3 is a commentary on the philosophical, hadith based, historical, and social aspects of governorship in general, and particularly that of the imamate of Ali Abi Talib and the Immaculate Imams. It includes teachings based on the wisdom of the Quran and reasoning based thereon, and hadiths both common and particular, in addition to definitive and critical discussions concerning governorship.
