This book is extremely well done. It allows for one of the most important pieces of the parent-child relationship - COMMUNICATION. When we talk about sexual intimacy with children while they are young it makes the topic less taboo and easy to discuss as they get older. The book offers simple and easy suggestions of topics to discuss with kids and offers great questions to start the conversation. It leads parents from the simple and easy topics to the more important topics like what a predator is and how to distinguish between good touching and bad touching. The best part is that "30 Days of Sex Talks" is not a manual of how a parent must have the talks but allows the parents freedom to determine what is best for their family. It is also free from any specific religious or political bias and could be acceptable for any family. I would recommend this book to any and all parents with young children.
Great book. I was concerned about possible biases (specifically religious), but the way it is written, it gives topics and direction with room to share your own values and opinions with your children.
I first ordered 30 Days of Sex Talks For Ages 12+ (see other review) to use in guiding conversations with my teenager and was so impressed I decided to order the versions For Ages 3-7 and 8-11 for my oldest daughter and son-in-law to use in having conversations with their kids. This book is very useful for getting things off to the right start when it comes to being a competent parent. Let's face it, this topic is taboo in most families and our kids are suffering because of our inability, unwillingness and fearfulness about educating them on this vital part of life and happiness. If we can't have these conversations with them, who will? Their classmates? The public schools? TV? The Internet?I found that this version for Ages 3-7 appropriately guides parents in helping young boys and girls understand their bodies and how to be safe in a world full of bullies and predators. I was glad to see that it also helps increase self-esteem and self-worth. I love the questions suggested in the books to get the conversations started - they are so helpful. The concept of this series of books is wonderful and it should probably be required reading for all parents and parents to be.
How can we teach our children that human intimacy is a natural, beautiful, loving part of their lives? By communicating with them from a very young age, from the context of family values and standards. This book is a powerful resource to make a subject that might seem overwhelming and places it back in the realm it should belong- natural, everyday conversations about natural, healthy, everyday human interactions. In a culture where objectification and the insidious nature of pornography seek to distort and confuse our children about intimacy's place in their lives, this book is spot-on in giving parents the tools they need to put intimacy back into the proper perspective. Kudos for Educate and Empower Kids! Keep up the good work.
Love this resource. With young kids, I have read and looked into many resources for approaching these topics with my children, and this is among my favorite. I LOVE the approach, as I felt like it helped me build for my kids a better understanding about their bodies, others bodies, the nature of connections and relationships, and really build up to the ideas and ideals of what I really want a 'sex talk' to be about with them.
I'm going through this book one day at a time right now with my 3 year old and 5 year old. They love it! We can adapt it to our value system and helps us know how to talk about it in a way that's appropriate for younger kids. I knew I needed to protect my kids, but I didn't realize it would be this much fun!!
As a mother, educator, and graduate of Psychology and Family And Human Development, I see how this book and the Educate and Empower Kids organization could not come at a more needed time. Our children need to learn about sex and human relations from the loving concern and comfort of their parents. We need to be open, honest, and frank in our discussions and this book helps us achieve that. It is imperative or else they will learn it from a society which devalues genuine human connections.
This is such an incredible resource from a wonderful, and well-meaning organization. It is so important that our children today are eductated about intimate topics before the world bombards them with many varying ideologies. As a parent, I am so excited to have these tools at my finger tips to help me share these topics with ease to my children. I would recommend this to parents, grandparents, educators, and therapists!
