Updated Review (Sep 2014): These official LSATs are no longer the most recent tests available. So it makes sense to start studying here. It just depends on how much time you have to study. If you have three months or more, I would start with earlier tests, as I explained in my original review below. Otherwise, start here and good luck! (Keep in mind, this book includes just the ten tests. It does not include any explanations. But, thankfully, you can find explanations online at several places. Just search for (1) Cambridge LSAT, (2) Manhattan LSAT's forum, (3) LSAT Blog, or (4) Graeme Blake's LSAT Hacks.)Original Review (Jun 2011): This is a great book. But don't start here. Because this book has 10 very recent official LSATs, you want to take all these tests timed before you take the official test, but not before you take some older tests first. For example, I'd suggest getting The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series), which has PrepTests 29-38, and take those. Basically, you want to take older tests before you take newer tests because the newer tests are harder. Learn the fundamentals on the old tests so you don't "waste" the newer ones until you're ready to take them.
This is a book of 10 real LSAT PrepTests published by the Law School Admission Council. They were administered from September 2007 - October 2010.Each PrepTest contains the 4 scored sections of the exam, as well as the writing sample. In my experience, I've found that many LSAT books out there choose to make up their own questions rather than pay the licensing fee to the Law School Admission Council to use real questions. However, this practice leaves students woefully unprepared. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to study from REAL LSAT questions, which are exactly what this book provides. I recommend these exams to all of my students. However, you'll need many more LSAT PrepTests than those in this book in order to adequately prepare. (See the tips on my site for more information about what to complete before taking the LSAT.)
This book is a must-buy for anyone studying for the LSAT--you really can't beat it. The math is really simple. Individually, these tests cost 8 dollars. There are ten of them in the book. So at this book's list price, you're getting more than half off for buying in bulk. On sale, it's about 75% off the individual price.Buying jumbo size makes sense here, because the typical LSAT student needs to do many LSAT tests in order to fully prepare. I give each of my LSAT students in San Francisco (my company is called Fox Test Prep) between 7 and 21 real LSATs, and students frequently do more tests outside of class. The ten in this book are all very recent, real LSAT tests. There are no better questions to study than these, and ten tests worth is certainly not too many.Even if you're just focused on one section of the test, this is still a great buy. For example, if you're strong in the verbal sections but are weak in games, you could buy this book and just do the games (there are 40 of them) and you're still getting a bargain.If you're self-studying, you should consider buying TWO of these books--one for you, and one for your study partner. (If you're self-studying, you NEED a study partner.) You and your partner could each do one of these tests, timed, 35 minutes per section, and then you should meet to discuss your results. Work through the games together. Debate the Logical Reasoning questions. It doesn't matter if you're at the same level or not. If your partner is scoring significantly lower than you are, you'll still learn a lot--maybe more than he'll learn!--through teaching him.You don't get many deals when you're on the LSAT/Law School path, but this is a really great one. As a professional LSAT instructor based in South Florida for 18 years([...]), 10 tests is the absolute minimum required to properly prepare. These ten are by far the most current of the previous collections of 10 preptests, such as "The Next 10 Actual Offcial LSAT Prep tests." In my opinion, the Logical reasoning sections have not changed significantly from the earlier books, but the Games sections in these books reflect a trend toward a slighly different structure of the more difficult Logic Games. In the past, higher level of difficulty was based on a greater number of rules and variables. On these, more recent tests, the more challenging games are more focused on flexibility and a looser structure. Practice and improve!
