As far as textbooks go, this one isn't too bad. I would like to see some of the terminology regarding immigrants changed to more humanistic words however. I would also like to see perhaps some more citation to back up the author's views--I agree with most of them, however it is important to have them backed by peer-reviewed sources. It is extremely inconvenient that the ebook version of this doesn't work on Kindle e-readers or on Kindle cloud. You are stuck either downloading the Kindle viewer app or reading it on your phone, which is extremely inconvenient for a textbook. What I do like about this as an ebook is that it is a searchable text, which is great when you need to look things up. Open book test--this is the format to go with. Another thing that I would like to see changed by the publisher is the length of time that the text can be rented for as an ebook. I have 8 week courses, so I didn't need this for the length of time allowed in the rental but still had to pay the full amount.
You can tell that Eitzen is a Marxist. He approaches social problems as conflict theorist. The thing is that Eitzen doesn't tend offer actual solution, but I guess that up to our generation. All and all it's a good book easy to follow.
Good book but obvious that the author is a pure democrat. Everything in the book is based off of democratic ideals. Neither party is completely right on either term so it is not an impartial text. But I still give it four stars since it was a great read even though I disagree with some of it.
Good text for reading and understanding the underlining problems associated with different structure of the class system here in America. I took away lots of knowledge from this text. I actually rented this text but i think i will purchase it as a resource textbook.
This book has great info .Some of its contents are slightly biased based on how both sides of a statistic are not provided. Offering a statement of concern in one area needs to have the opposite statistic available to be clear on exactly what is being compared. Open minded awareness of our social issues is a must, stating percentages and statistics without the other side of equation represents a one sided approach
I ordered this book for my Sociology Class this semester.When I received the book, it was loose leaf, as stated in the order, but the book inside was not what I ordered.The edition #, author's name, name of the book, and content that are advertised here are not the same as what I received after purchasing Social Problems Plus New MySocLab with etext 13th edition by D Stanley Eitzen.I recieved a binder that had a book inside called "SOC 2013", 3rd edition, written by Jon Witt.When the book showed up on my doorstep I was excited to crack it open and start my reading for the semester, but, to my dismay I was greeted by foreign pages.I have sent my request in for a return, hopefully it goes through and I did not realize the difference in what I bought and what I received too late.Customers: I advise you to triple check exactly what you are buying, because this product is a classic example of false advertising, make sure you are getting what you ordered.
What can you say, it's an over proved book but renting it is a breeze. I've saved a lot of money doing it this way. Thank you for renting it to me.
Great book. It teaches you many things about this crazy world we live in. I traded it for an gift card credit after my class semester ended.
