When I read the title of this book, I thought to myself, 'hmmm, I might need to have this book on my bookshelf' (well, read it first, then put it on my bookshelf). As a mother of 5 boys, I still have a lot to learn in the mothering boys department. I grew up with one sister, so my boys can be a bit puzzling to me at times, especially when they hit adolescence. My oldest sons are 10 and 8, and I also have two 2-year-old sons and a 4-month-old son. It's easy to mother sons when they are little - they need a caring, nurturing mama to love on them and meet their physical and emotional needs, but once they reach that tween age, things start to change a bit and it's harder for me to relate to them. I was happy to have the opportunity to review Cheri Fuller's latest book, What a Son Needs From His Mom because I want to be able to adequately meet the need's of my sons throughout their lives, not just when they are little.Through her wisdom and experience from raising two sons, Cheri Fuller encourages other mothers of sons as they take on the task of raising them. She also shares the stories and experiences of other moms and sons and sites expert advice and professional wisdom. The book is just over 200 pages, has 14 chapters, and provides "questions to ponder, journal, or discuss" at the end of each chapter. I liked having the questions at the end as it allowed me to dig deeper into the topic at hand and focus it on our own personal circumstances at home. The book covers the areas of encouraging your son, building confidence in your son, praying for your son, understanding your son's personality and learning style, releasing your son to manhood, and many other important topics.
