UPDATE:I just dropped review from 3 star to 1. It is unacceptable for a language arts book to have obvious (or any) grammatical errors.Page 15: The question reads:"Who do nurses help?"If WHO IS NOT THE SUBJECT OF THE SENTENCE, it should read: "Whom do nurses help?""Whom" is the direct object of the sentence.GOOD GRIEF! PLEASE EDIT!-------------Previous reviewI have a pre-K student who tests between a 2nd and 3rd grade reading level, vocabulary, and spelling.Reading comprehension, deduction, and logic are different skills--but if the book is labeled for K students and truly appropriate for that level, it would be within this student's ability to use independently. It's not.Layout:Small font and tight leading make it challenging to read.Content:Not just reading comprehension, but also deductive reasoning is required.This book is great for developing those new skills working together with the student--but few if any K students can work through any of this alone.

I used this series with a fourth grade class and loved it. I bought the version for K thinking that it would work well for the beginning of the year for first graders. However, it is way too wordy for first graders to decipher what they would need to do independently. I bought other materials that are far more user friendly.

The overall content and concept are on target. However, the print is very small and the language can be confusing for a kindergartener.

I bought this teacher ELA resource for my daughter and she loves it! It is a great warm up for the morning work!
