This book fills a void in the history of our country and does an excellent job of doing this. There are numerous books on the War of 1812 but few cover the key area of the war - the State of Ohio. This book covers that area using mainly primary sources. And, it covers it in a very readable format.Whenever you read about the War of 1812, the focus is on the battles around Buffalo, NY, the Chesapeake Campaign, the War at Sea (the USS Constitution and of course the Battle of New Orleans (Andrew Jackson). Very little coverage of the siege at Fort Meigs, the Battle of the Thames, the River Raisin Massacre occurs and it doesn't provide a continuation of coverage. This book fills that need. Consequently, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the early history of the US.
I purchased this book to get more background information about the movements of the old 17th US Infantry Regiment and the Kentucky militia who served in Gen. Harrison's army in the War of 1812. Thanks to the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, several very good books have been published about the men and women who were involved and lived during this difficult period of our history. I am gathering detailed information on all aspects of this war as far as it involves the 17th United States Infantry Regiment from Kentucky. Mr. Skaggs' work is very well written and easy to read and it is full of details pertaining to the soldiers in his Army of the North West. I would recommend this work to any and all who wish to add to their knowledge of this often overlooked but important time in the history of our country. William Henry Harrison and the Conquest of the Ohio Country will be added to the suggested reading list of the 17th Infantry Regiment Association and its two active battalions that are currently serving our country.
Very interesting insights but chronology of the narration tends to go back and forth too much.
Outstanding purchase in all aspects.
