This book just came in the mail and I would recommend it to anyone taking the AP World exam. This book provides an intense preparation for the actual test, and comes with a DVD. It gives a very detailed explanation of all the topics you need to know. I prefer Kaplan over Barron's because Kaplan does not over exaggerate the difficulty level of the topics.
My daughter used this book to prep for her AP World History test (2015) I bought both the Kaplan and Barron's books based on other people's reviews as one was described as better for obtaining the information needed for the test (Barron's) and the other was better at test prep (Kaplan). We found this to be very true. The short answer is she preferred the Barron's book but both had their pros and cons.Best described as two different books for two different types of students. If you like to read about the topics and want to learn the information more in-depth, choose Barron's. If you want just what you need to pass the test, prefer general overviews, and need help on test strategies, pick Kaplan. The long answer: She thought the Barron's was easier for studying and is a better way to learn the information needed for the test. You don't feel like you are studying but rather reading a book. However, it was better then her textbook as Barron's ONLY gives the information you need for the test and presents it in an interesting way (not a dry read where you have to pick out the info you need). Kaplan gave bits of information (still sufficient) but was not as in-depth. Kaplan's book is better if you are trying to prepare for taking the test itself. It gives you strategies for answering the questions and how you should approach the essays. My daughter's teacher provided this information so she really did not need it from a book. The information Kaplan gives is more the key points only. Kaplan has more practice tests and online support but both books had an adequate number of tests and the questions were set-up like the real test. Both were helpful.
See, if you want an easy 3, then definitely purchase this. If you are aiming for a 4 or 5 i would recommend Barons or Princeton as a better option. This provides a slightly brief over view of everthing and skips over many key things you should know. Also the practice questions are super easy, although practice is practice, especially with the essay prompts which WILL in fact help you practice properly for the exam (given you know how to write the essays, the book does give instruction but is not v great and is a 2nd person source )
This book is excellent in test prep. However, some tips they give and the sample responses they present for the practice test are not too helpful. But if you are someone like me, who procrastinated and crammed at the last two weeks before the ap exam, you need this book!! Barron's is very detailed and will help you throughout the year but it is poor test prep. I think Princeton Review is okay but Kaplan is the best for Test prep. The information is short and concise, everything you need to know for the exam. This book helped me earn a 5, but that was also partly due to my teacher who helped me a lot. If you want to do good on the essays, I would suggest you to buy Princeton or Barron's so that you won't lack details and then buy Kaplan to really prep for the multiple choice and the variety of questions they have. Practice, practice, practice!!! That was the key to my success.
Easy to comprehend, very useful and exactly as described. For what is inside, a very reasonable price.
Great pricing and came in perfect condition. I received it in under a week and I am satisfied with the content of the book.
Exactly what was described and what I needed for class
Met all of my expectations. Great purchase.
