I was tempted to give it a lower rating, but that's when I realized I would be basing it off of my enmity of homework and studying. It breaks down the AP World curriculum into important things you need to know for the exam. It goes over essays, content, and strategies for getting a good score. The one flaw that I see with it is the pages. The pages are meant to be written on which makes it great, but I love bright colors, thus I love to use highlighters when outlining information. I also am very obsessive about things, such as the sound a highlighter makes when it glides against these pages. It drives me up the wall to the point where I forbid myself to use highlighter in this book. I tend to just use pen, however, and it works well. Now about Barron's. My WHAP teacher told my class that Princeton is better than Barron's and that she does not recommend it (Giving us the mneumic device "Barron's = BAD"). My friend must have accidentally bought the Barron's, so she gave it to me as a birthday present (Isn't that great). So I skimmed through Barron's and it completely resembles a textbook, while Princeton uses easier language, and turns it more into a story. Barron's also does not have as big of an essay section or talks about big ideas of each time period, unlike Barron's. The one positive I found about Barron's: the pages they used. I am happy that my AP World teacher recommended Princeton, but it all just depends on the format of which you like to read. Good luck on the exam!
Since it is March, the Advanced Placement test is just around the corner. My daughter wanted some extra practice. Her teacher recommended this preparation book. It has lots of explanation of what's behind the test. It includes four practice tests in the 555 pages. The book is refreshed every year, which is a great feature. You also can access more information online.
This book helped me soo much for the exam. Practice tests are essential for me to study and the extra exams are well worth it. However, it's ultimately up to the student to study the book and work at it. Good luck AP World kids, after 2 years of hell in this course my 5 made it all worth it
My teacher taught us little. I'm not just saying that; his power points were from a website, the answers to all his quizzes and tests were found online, etc ... Point is, he did little to actually prepare us. He took the easy way out to just get the lesson done with. (Oh and by the way, last year only 7/180 people passed the AP world exam last year in my school.) Well, I studied this book like two days before the exam and got a 3! I usually don't accept 3's, but prior to this book I had almost no knowledge about world history, and this book at least helped me pass. It made the multiple choice easy for me, but it was only the essays that I found challenging. Had I had a proper teacher, I think I could've gotten a 4 with this book. But I'm pleased with a 3 since when I started this book I had barely any knowledge of world history (and I blame my teacher, not myself!).
I'm self studying for the exam and this book is pretty good for that. Although I think I personally prefer the Barons books for studying for AP.
My daughter, a sophomore in high school, passed her world AP test with a 'B' grade.. She was so afraid she wouldn't even pass, so we ordered this book and it definitely helped her
Totally helpful. Highly recommend the study guide. My HS student hated the class, but passed the AP exam primarily because of this manual.
