Generally an excellent item. However, many students may find that their professors cover the material very differently than the descriptions on the chart. I think some others agree with me on this. The chart is intriguing, although perhaps slanted towards ethics and pragmatism. It is more brilliant than clear, which is the opposite of what I expected. Those who designed the chart clearly have great knowledge of modern philosophy if we ignore my own work. The interpretation of Wittgenstein is brilliant, but leaves some things to be desired.
I have several of these cards on various subjects. I like them because they are durable (10+ years old, some), can be punched to fit a ring binder, and are great skim-study aids and memory refreshers.
This was my favorite Quick Study guide. It had just superb capsule summaries of dozens of the main philosophies and philosophers, from Aristotle and Plato to the moderns like Kant and 20th century philosophers like Russell and Moore. Also very nice brief explanations of the different major fields of philosophy such as metaphysics, ontology, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics. Many times when trying to explain a particular point to a fellow student or friend I would think about what I was going to say, and then realize the Quick Study explanation was better and I would just repeat it from memory. Everyone in the class thought I was a lot better philosopher than I was. LOL. Even the prof was impressed on several occasions when I was able to give brief but to the point summaries of an important idea. I'm sure he knew where I was getting it but nevertheless it worked. So overall I (and the other students) found it an extremely useful summary of the most important concepts.
Great shortcut to understanding introduction to philosophy. Very handy format ...easy to carry and use as a reference. Worth buying.
Great review, but no historical overview.
I needed this chart for my Introduction to Philosophy course and I was very pleased. The charts are exactly what I needed and they were shipped properly and extremely fast.
This is exactly what was required for the class. It came packaged very neatly and the product did not have a scratch on it.
