Hola este libro me ha encantado y me alegra mucho este mejorando su lista de bestsellers en español... Porque honestamente no es la mejor. A parte que esta en digital lo cual esuna maravillaEste libro lo compre en papel y me pareció fuera de serie. Para ser honesta desconocía mucho de la participación de España en la guerra II y este libro me enseño muchísimo de una forma muy amena! Cinco estrellas para María dueñas!
Al principio creí que la historia me iba a aburrir y estaba muy equivocada. De principio a fin me mantuvo entretenida pese a que pensé que el personaje sería igual toda la novela y al contrario, se transfromó y creció y me llevó por paisajes mágicos y a través de hechos históricos muy interesantes.La narración es fluida, es emocionante, tiene ese toque de suspenso ideal. A mi parecer el final sí es concreto, cuando se refiere a lo que pudo ser, se refiere a lo que es este relato en la historia de la guerra, pero no en la historia de los personajes en sí, pero bueno, ese es mí parecer.Muy recomendable!
A fabulous novel covering from the years previous to the Spanish Civil War to the end of the WWII, with scenes covering Madrid, Tanger and Tetuan, Madrid again and Lisbon to finally return to Madrid once again, with intrigue and history development with a formal bibliography of the non fictional aspects of the book which give a hard backbone to the fiction of the novel. In Spanish works just fine even her author has a PhD in English literature and applies many of the techniques used in English to this very Spanish novel. Easy reading and wonderful experience. Excellent, hard to put it down and then you did not want it to end. If you have been in Spain, especially for long period of times, or if you grew up with parents born in Spain the flavor is there. It's very easy to read and to get into it. Learned a lot about the Spanish civil war, all that went through and of course live in Morocco. Would not mind reading it again. There were certain chapters that were a little hard to believe but in general it's a delight. I recommend it highly. My husband is reading it now and he's enjoying it very much.
Un par de malas decisiones dejan a Sira Quiroga sola en Tetuán sin dinero y tras meses de estrecheces abre un taller de alta costura que comienza a atraer a una clientela nada peculiar comenzando su doble función de modista y espía, condición por la que es enviada a Madrid donde abre el mismo negocio y continua cosiendo, diseñando, oyendo, informando y transmitiendo a los Servicios Secretos británicos toda la información que iba recopilando de sus clientas - esposas, amantes o familiares de altos funcionarios españoles y nazis - hasta el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial siempre rodeada de gente peculiar, clientas ricas e importantes, políticos, militares españoles y extranjeros, amigos entrañables y un miedo a ser descubierta cualquier dia.Una novela estupendamente escrita, bien narrada que mantiene el interes del lector desde el comienzo de la historia que nos transporta a la España de la Guerra Civil desde la distancia del Protectorado de Marruecos, el Madrid empobrecido de la postguerra y la situación económica, política y social que vivió el país en esa década tan convulsa para la historia española. Una trama para disfrutar de principio a fín.
A totally engrossing book. I had a hard time putting it down. The author brilliantly combined historical information about the period of the Spanish Civil War and World War II with a wide-ranging personal adventure story. Finally, as an advanced student of Spanish, I found the level of writing to be somewhat challenging but quite readable.
Uno de los mejores libros que he leido. A traves de la protagonista, vives en primera persona los tristes sucesos de la guerra civil española. Imposible dejar de leer. Bravo Bárbara!
This was an excellent, entertaining first novel by a relatively new and young author. Most importantly, it is beautifully written; I certainly hope Ms. Duenas has, or is working on, a second gem. To boot, this novel is available as a Spanish Kindle and in English (not sure if also as Kindle) as The Time in Between. The beautiful-writing is evident in Spanish, but I have had quite positive, consistent feedback from friends to whom I've recommended the English version.It reminded me of Mira Si Yo Te Querre, though only in that it involves a Spanish woman in the Sahara. The Duenas character is much more engaging, and the story is much more entertaining, even fascinating, although the ending was less-so to this reader. The author is an academic and this is evident in the well-researched, rich historical and geographic contexts she paints, and in which in which she grounds the life and times of Sira Quiroga and her fellow-travelers -matters that are often quite weak even with better-known and more-seasoned authors.Not surprisingly, the novel is being presented as an Antena 3 television series in Spain this year.
