I first read The Buried Mirror as a college student 7 years ago. Since then, I have travelled through Mexico, Guatemala, and Spain and have always looked to "The Burried Mirror" as a valuable source of insight to the cultures I experience.For anyone who has ever wondered about how the cultures and histories of those from the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas have comingled and collided, this is the book for you!
I studied International Relations at a university in Mexico City and this was required reading for one of my classes. I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the insight and detailed societal mapping Mr Fuentes articulates in this book. When I was finished, I recommended this book to my colleagues at the Department of State who were looking for a deep-dive into the Latin American culture, but from a holistic view. I like to refer back to this book when discussin Latin American politics, especially when talking about Spain and the Americas are concerned. There's art, culture, religion, migration--a great book that's easy to read (keep in mind, it's Carlos Fuentes) and well organized.
`El espejo enterrado' es un libro muy interesante que nos brinda un excelente análisis de nuestra historia y que abarca un poco más de cinco siglos. El autor nos presenta ideas claras y reflexiones de gran valor. Lo recomiendo. También otros buenos libros de toda clase de temas y de diferentes autores tales como: `La sombra del viento', `Una cierta justicia, Resurgir de la esvástica, El (Ebook) [Versión Kindle], y `El juego del ángel'.
Extraordinaria reseña y compilacion, cargado de datos politicos, economicos y culturales. Aun cuando algunas conclusiones quedan en entre dicho, en su gran mayoria tienen una linea clara de la identidad imaginaria tan actual que da una base solida para nuestra generacion y otras tantas por venir de las preguntas pendientes a resolver.
Una obra magistral, necesaria para todo aquel Latinoamericano interesado en conocer nuestras verdaderas raices Indo-afroiberoamericanas, tal como las llama Carlos Fuentes. Una obra llena de detalles obviados por los historiadores tradicionales, detalles de la misma historia española y su incidencia directa sobre nuestra riqueza cultural. Sólidos argumentos para entender incluso los diferentes movimientos independentistas que surgieron en toda America a lo largo del tiempo y el porque de los diferentes estilos de gobiernos surgidos en nuestros paises latinoamericanos, desde las primeras reformas agrarias, las crueles dictaduras y los movimientos socialistas en nuestro continente.La obra de Carlos Fuentes muy aparte de enriquecer nuestras cultura general, nos deja meditando en el presente con una proyeccion al futuro de nuestra realidad como sociedad en el mundo.
Excelente obra de Carlos Fuentes, muy bien escrita y muy interesante; pone a uno a pensar sobre ese espejo que es nuestra tierra. Lo recomiendo.
