I bought this book to learn more about my dad's prostate cancer diagnosis and research some of the treatment options available. I'm so pleased with my purchase--the authors have done a great job of covering everything and providing lots of information that's easy to take in. Helpful charts, tables, checklists, and diagrams are scattered throughout. Chapters range from dealing with diagnosis to going into specific treatment options, from prostate removal to ablation therapy to hormone therapy, with pros and cons discussed for all. It was a lot easier to digest than other books I bought for reference, and I'm really glad I found this resource.
After reading this book I got a whole new perspective on the state of prostate cancer treatment. It is gratifying to know that physicians like Dr.Sperling are continuing to search for less invasive treatments and treatments that have significantly reduced co-morbidities. Laser focal treatment seems to be the answer for patients that qualify that did not have choices before. Truly we are heading to a one size does not fit all with prostate cancer!
Comprehensive, but easy and brief so that you can get back to your Dr. faster and with a fuller understanding of what each test means; what new tests are becoming available; and even future testing ideas that look promising. I just saw my radiologist/oncologist this afternoon, just an hour after finishing reading the book and making notes and list of questions to ask. Not all of the "look good in testing stage" tests and treatments are available in many areas. I feel that I really understand what my Dr. said today. This book (along with the Walsh book new edition- much longer with more details but not quite as up to date with new trial) should be more than enough to make you comfortable with your treatment choices. In particular I was interested in the new MRI process that can be taken before the biopsy to help zero in on possible trouble spots.
This book is a rarely encountered example of successful transferring enormous amount of complex information and knowledge in terms simple enough for anyone to follow and really understand. A close friend suffers from this condition and the book helped us both understand the available options and related trade offs. Enormously helpful...
This was well researched and helped with issues that our family has faced. We wanted the latest, unbiased opinions from doctors who deal with these issues everyday and understand how to communicate in a way that makes sense.I highly recommend this book to the women who are facing a diagnosis and are looking for guidance on how to better understand and make informed decisions. I equally recommend this book to men who need to learn about their options.

Excellent resource for Men in understanding the diagnosis and treatment of Prostate Cancer. The knowledge base of Dr's. Lamm, Lepor and Sperling is unremarkable. A must read for the men in my life!
Well written and accurate book explaining the nature of prostate cancer and the tests involved in diagnosing and treating...the information is accurate...a must read for patient's with prostate cancer...not as long as the the other standard which is Dr Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate cancer
