I enjoyed reading this book.I read it with two goals in mind; to understand the position of Messianic Jews better, and to evaluate my views concerning the applicability of the Sinaitic Covenant to the New Covenant believer.Dr. Michael Brown covers both issues in a balanced manner, and I appreciate his explanations.I would like to say, though, that as a Midwestern American, anti-Semitism is virtually non-existent here, and I have only met a few individuals that were Jewish. One was a college professor, and I have met a few other people casually that are Jewish. I don't know if I've heard any of my family or friends make anti-Semitic remarks. I don't doubt that hatred exists regarding Jewish people, but it is much less than I've seen expressed toward other minorities or individuals. Some of the remarks came across as being a bit paranoid, but being a student of history I know that anti-Semitism exists. It is rare in my world, though. Also, I think that he needs to evaluate the motives behind the early church councils that seemed to be anti-Semitic. I suspect that Judaizers (and I hate that word as it seems it would be insulting to Messianic Jewish brethren) caused the early church to address this issue strongly. Like Dr. Brown, I do not think that Messianic Jews should have been forced to abandon traditions that were not anti-Christian, though. I suspect that there were a pocket of Judaizers who were trying to force the rest of the church to submit to the non-moral elements of the Sinaitic Covenant (particularly Sabbath, festivals, and clean/unclean meats) and perhaps that is why the councils dealt strictly with those issues, anathematizing those who were making these claims.
