Emanuel Quint is a lawyer and doctor who lectures widely on Jewish law. This is the first in a large series of books that translate and explain the code of Jewish law composed by Joseph Karo in 1565. It covers the laws of judges and evidence. Rabbi Quint introduces each chapter with an overview and adds his explanations and comments on the bottom of each page. He views virtually all rabbinical laws as being of biblical origin. For example, his first note states that "The judicial system as set up in the Torah was three-tiered," and describes this system in eight pages, even though none of this is explicit in the Torah. However, to be fair, while the system is not in the Torah, many rabbis feel that the Torah implies it.
