I'm sure most people will order this book because it is required for a college course, but regardless of the reason you order it - be forewarned. This book is not about infant and toddler development - it's about Magda Gerber (and of course Emmi Pickler and Anna Tardos). Gerber was of course one of the most heavily influential early childhood researchers and educators of our time, but she was not the only one and I don't think RIE is the only method of child rearing that should be taught- particularly to students in any Early Childhood department. I felt cheated by this textbook for only exploring one person's ideas about early childhood development, and I was turned off by its tone. The book is almost laughably judgmental (I shouldn't say almost- I literally laughed multiple times) of other forms of child rearing and ideas about child development and it never questions even one of Gerber's ideas or explores any of the ideas of other important early childhood researchers. I think it is extremely important for early childhood educators to study Gerber, but the authors should be clear that she is the subject of this book, not infant and toddler development.
This book was reared reading for my infant and toddler practicum. I wish that I had read it while my own children had been infants. The ten principals of respect for infants and toddlers spoke to me. It is important that we learn to foster independence in children, treat them with respect, and help them to make discoveries about the world around them. Infants and toddlers have thoughts, feelings, and abilities we cannot begin to imagine!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is now or intends to work with infants and toddlers. Parents, caregivers as well as educators should read this.
I don't like that the oversea shipping process, this book came in the mail about 2 months late, I had to request for a refund.
Purchased as a required textbook for a college course. Information contained within was very basic for someone who has hand's on experience in the field. It is full of useful information for those new to the ECE field.
This textbook is a good guide to go to and use as a resource for learning about infant and toddler development and curriculum. It can seem drawn out and dry but keeping in mind that it is a textbook, I'd consider it a useful tool.
I bought this as an ebook for a class, and I need to read it on my computer. It shows up on my Kindle for PC app, but I can't open it.I get an error message that says it won't open in Kindle for Windows 8. Even though I am running Windows 10, there does not seem to even BE a Kindle app for Windows 10.I can read novels and stories on the Kindle just fine, but this is a textbook, and it's terribly inconvenient to read on the Kindle.
This book is very easy to use, I have found it an asset to study with, it has videos which help you to visually see what they are talkig about. It made my college course enjoyable. Great Book!
